Creative Biostructure Provides 6 Methods for Biophysical Characterization

Creative Biostructure gives biophysical characterization application for scientist, helping them do researches so as to meet the requirements of customers.

There are 6 methods which are used by Creative Biostructure to characterize the biophysical characteristics of biomolecules.

Protein Thermal Shift Assay
Surface Plasmon Resonance
Isothermal Titration Calorimetry
Differential Scanning Calorimetry
Saturation-Transfer Difference
Bio-Layer Interferometry (BLI) Technology
Next, we will select some of them to be introduced in detail.

Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR)

Surface plasmon resonance (SPR) is a molecular biology detection technology developed in the 1990s, which is a cutting-edge technology based on SPR biosensor chip.

In the beginning of twentieth century, when the polarized light of the continuous spectrum was observed by Wood, there was an anomalous diffraction phenomenon, and a public description of the phenomenon was carried out.

In 1990, the world's first commercially produced bio-sensor was born by Biocore company in Sweden.

Practice has proved that compared with the traditional detection method, SPR sensor has the advantages of no need to mark the samples, real-time monitoring, high sensitivity and so on. Therefore, it has broad application prospects in medical diagnosis, biological monitoring, biotechnology, drug development, food safety testing and other fields.

Isothermal Titration Calorimetry (ITC)

The experiment is based on a sample solution containing the reaction required for the reaction. After each titration, the reaction heat is released or absorbed, which can be detected by ITC. The thermodynamic analysis of the thermal effect provides the quantitative characteristics of the combined reaction related energy process, which can directly measure the energy parameters related to the reaction process occurring at room temperature.

The thermal effects measured by ITC is a minimum of up to 125 nJ. Minimum detection of thermal power is 2 nW. A minimum amount of biological samples is 0.4 ug and ITC sensitivity has been improved these years, reducing the response time (less than 10s). ITC do not need to fix or change the reactants, because the combination of heat is spontaneous.
